Adding Fiberglass Entrances for Your Home

Choosing a front door to a house is complicated not least by the style, size, and accoutrements, but also by the choice of material. Modern home owners may select from three main kinds. The first and most classical choice is the wood door which is appreciated for its aesthetic properties. The second is more popular but less elegant, the steel door, which is incidentally very durable. The third is the relative newcomer: the fiberglass entry door, which can be made to look very much like wood, yet resist warping, cracking and peeling like steel.

The class of materials to which fiberglass belongs is known as composites. The definition of a composite is that it’s made of up of two or more different substances. In the case of fiberglass this includes regular glass as well as resins such as polymer plastics. The multi-material composition is what gives fiberglass it’s various properties. For example, it can be molded into different shapes and is flexible yet retains shape under stresses.

Contemporary entry doors are made with fiberglass as the principal component. Fiberglass entrance doors are available in a dizzying number of styles. They can be made with textures that resemble popular woods such as oak or cherry. A fiberglass exterior door can also be made to fit variable raw opening heights due to high flooring or thick rugs. The high damage resistance of fiberglass doors has seen them supplied with long warranties of two or more decades.

The fiberglass garage door is another welcome addition to the home. Much like the fiberglass entry door, the fiberglass garage door is resistant to salt corrosion, water damage, cracking and denting as long as it’s of high quality. A strong steel skeleton keeps all the pieces firmly together. As fiberglass is so light, its core can be left empty or filled with insulating material. This and rubber seals make fiberglass garage doors ideal for greening a home.

Fiberglass french doors are defined by large glass panels that allow light to come into the house. French doors are popular for doors that lead to a patio or deck, both for lighting up the interior of a house and allow unimpeded vision to the outside. If glass panels are not desired, it’s possible to install plain fiberglass patio doors that are a high quality, beautiful entrance through the backyard of the house.

Those who are interested in such doors can first browse the selection at large DIY home renovation and improvement retailers. Such retailers will sell the gamut of quality, from cheap generics to high quality, exclusive brands. The cheaper doors might not have long lifetimes, perhaps cracking under heat and even warping despite guarantees. These will cost only a few hundred dollars. In the middle are some store-brands and exclusive company brands, starting perhaps in the high hundreds to a thousand dollars. At the highest end are exclusive brands which might cost three or four thousand dollars, complete as an entry way system. Specialty stores that act as intermediaries between local customers and nationwide companies also exist.
